If you or someone you know is experiencing mental health or substance misuse symptoms, or is going to be homeless or is homeless, Danielle recommends the following resources:
- The North Island Hospital Comox Valley Emergency Department provides 24/7, round-the-clock emergency care for serious, life-threatening conditions. Located in Courtenay (101 Lerwick Road), it treats patients based on severity rather than arrival time. For non-emergency, urgent care, the Comox Valley Urgent and Primary Care Centre operates as an alternative for same-day, non-life-threatening issues, but appointments are required.Speak with your doctor or call your local emergency mental health and substance use services @ (250) 331-8524
- Contact our local Nursing Center @ 250-331-8502 to see a nurse practitioner if you do not have a doctor.
- Homeless shelters and support services in Courtenay include the Connect Temporary Shelter (685 Cliffe Ave), which offers 24/7 services and housing support. A winter shelter operates at 971 Cumberland Road until April 15, 2026, opening daily at 4:30 p.m.. Additional resources for women and families are provided by Comox Valley Transition Society, including Lilli House, while The Junction (988 8th St) offers supportive housing
- Comox Valley MHSU has moved to 941A England Avenue, Courtenay as of March 24, 2026. Adult Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) services are available at no cost for individuals aged 19+ years old who reside in the Comox Valley (including Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, and Denman & Hornby Islands). The team assists patients with navigation and referrals to other programs, provides screening and assessments, as well as connections to additional MHSU services such as counselling, outreach teams, treatment and recovery. The first step to access these services is to complete the single session walk-in or phone service (SSWIS).
